PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A green blanket comforts Rocco as a team of veterinarians tend to him in the ICU at the Pittsburgh Veterinary and Specialty Emergency Center.

“The injuries to this dog are extremely life threatening,” said Dr. Julie Compton, a veterinarian surgeon. “I don’t know whether he’ll survive this or not, but he’s certainly trying.”

Rocco is 8-years-old. He’s been with the Pittsburgh Police Department for more than five years.

He was stabbed while police were chasing down a suspect in Lawrenceville Tuesday night.

Police describe 21-year-old John Rush as a dangerous guy. They say he’s a convicted sex offender and was wanted for a violent home invasion. More recently, police say he’d been traveling around the country with a 17-year-old girl.

Police finally tracked him down.

D.C. Police Chief Addresses Officer Misconduct



WASHINGTON — District of Columbia Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Friday that the department is working to implement an on-body camera system for officers to “establish a record of police conduct.”

Lanier briefly mentioned the technology to the D.C. Council while addressing concerns over police misconduct, a problem that attracted public attention last month with the arrests of three officers accused in unrelated investigations involving child pornography, attempted murder and running a prostitution operation involving teenage girls.

Police department figures show that more than 100 officers have been arrested in the past five years, but Lanier said she didn’t believe the problem was any worse than in other big-city police departments. She said many of the charges that have been filed involve alcohol-related traffic offenses and domestic violence and that many of the cases are not prosecuted and do not end with a conviction.

One Arrested After Traffic Stop In Which Shots Were Fired

HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) — Hartford Police have arrested a driver after an early-morning incident in which a Hartford policeman fired three shots at the man’s vehicle.  No one was hurt.

Police say one officer stopped a driver on Mahl Avenue at about 2:30 a.m.,  after seeing the vehicle speeding and driving erratically in the snow.  The driver stopped only momentarily, then began backing up toward the officer before continuing forward.

Then, police say a second officer,  identified as Sean Perez, encountered the vehicle and, fearing for his own safety, fired three shots which hit the front end of the car.  The driver stopped.   He’s identified as 32-year-old Sadiki Blake of Hartford,  charged with reckless driving, disobeying the sgnal of an officer and criminal attempt to commit assault.  Bond was set at half a million dollars.  Police say he has 21 previous Hartford arrests.
