Marijuana Hydroponics Lab Discovered In Miami Home

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police have raided and shut down an underground hydroponics laboratory that was so hazardous that detectives say it could have triggered an underground explosion in a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.

Three people including the homeowner have been arrested on charges including trafficking in marijuana at the home on Southwest 301st Street near the Florida Turnpike.

“This is terrible,” said neighbor Nico Meseses. “This was right next to my door.”

His wife Aurea Meseses told CBS4’s Peter D’Oench, “It’s terrible because kids live around here.”

“It’s scary,” said neighbor Teresa Gomez. “I am freaked out.”

“It makes us not want to live here anymore,” said another neighbor Nicole Danford. “It makes us feel unstable and unsafe.”

Police also released dramatic video from their narcotics bureau showing how the lab had an open hatch leading to an underground crawl space and 82 marijuana plants worth $144,000.

Man Injured In North Dade Gas Station Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One person was taken to the hospital after a shooting early Sunday morning in north Miami-Dade.

The shooting happened just after 7 a.m.

The man, who was reportedly shot during a robbery, drove himself to the Chevron station at 15821 NW 7th Avenue.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed that an adult male with a gunshot wound to his leg was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

No word on the extent of his injury.

Police have not released the injured person’s name.

Police Search For Alleged Killer Of Elderly Caregiver

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Miami-Dade Police are asking for the public’s help to located a 20-year-old man who allegedly beat his elderly caregiver to death last year.

According to our news partners the Miami Herald, Danei Washington Gordon is believed to be in the North Miami Beach or Miramar area.

The former Miramar High School student has been on the run since April when police say he beat and killed Neville Smith, 73, with a metal cooking pot at their home on the 142000 block of Northeast Second Court.

“From what I understand, my dad was making his breakfast and the breakfast was still there. I don’t know what would cause someone to do that to a 73-year-old,” said Joi Crockett, Smith’s daughter.

Recently, Gordon reemerged on social media. According to the paper, authorities had been unable to get a picture of Gordon until he began posting pictures of himself…

Teaching Aides Charged In Classroom Brawl

KISSIMMEE (AP) — A classroom brawl ended with a pair teacher’s aides being charged.

The fight happened January 9th in a classroom for emotionally disturbed students at Discovery Intermediate School in Kissimmee.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says chairs were thrown during the brawl and students’ videos that captured the fight showed one student kicking another.

The two teaching aides were charged with child neglect because they failed to stop the fight or call for assistance, even though they had access to phones and radios.

Three students have also been charged with aggravated battery.

School district officials said the aides have been removed from the classroom and may be suspended without pay. A sheriff’s office spokeswoman says neither of the aides is cooperating with investigators.

Miami Man Accused Of Attacking Tow Truck Driver

TAVERNIER (CBSMiami) – A Miami man who reportedly backed into a tow truck driver as he attempted to tow his car away in the upper Keys was arrested Saturday evening.

Guy’s Towing received a call from a man at the Driftwood Trailer Park around 6 p.m. who said an unauthorized vehicle was parked in his parking space and he wanted it towed. The tow truck arrived and the driver began to hook the vehicle up to tow it.

That’s when Javier Ramos, 43, jumped into the car in an attempt to stop it from being towed. The driver was behind the vehicle when Ramos allegedly threw it into reverse. Ramos backed into driver and knocked him to the ground.

A second employee of the tow company sprayed Ramos with pepper spray in an attempt to get him to stop, so he wouldn’t further injure the driver, according to the Monroe…
