Mother, Son Dead In Lawncrest Double Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating a double shooting in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia Sunday that left a mother and her son dead.

Police say they were called to the home on the 300 block of Stevens Street around 3:30 p.m. after a 29-year old woman found the 49-year-old mother and her 22-year old son dead. Both victims, who police have identified as Donna and Rich Muller, were shot in the head, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the bodies was found in an upstairs bedroom, and the other was discovered just outside in the hallway.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says the investigation into what happened is underway:

“We don’t have a motive at this time. However, we have several witnesses that were transported to homicide, and they’re being interviewed by homicide detectives right now.”

College Student Shot In Cellphone Robbery Dies

CHICAGO (STMW) — A South Side college student who was shot despite handing his cellphone over to two robbers died Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Kevin Baker, 19, was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the medical examiner’s office said.

Baker, a student at Harold Washington College, was on his way back from class Thursday when the robbery and shooting happened, said neighbor and family friend Earnestine Barnette.

Baker was walking with his cousin in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue about 4:15 p.m. when two people ­— one armed with a handgun — got out of a dark-colored van and demanded their cellphones, police said. After the two handed over their phones, the armed robber opened fire, striking Baker in the head.

College Student Shot, Critically Wounded, Over Cell Phone

CHICAGO (CBS) — A college student was shot in the head while walking home from school, after two men robbed him and a woman of their cell phones on Thursday.

CBS 2’s Susanna Song reports Kevin Baker, a freshman at Harold Washington College, was in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn early Friday.

Around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Baker was walking home with a cousin in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, when a dark-colored van pulled up in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue, and two men got out, one of them wielding a handgun.

The two men told Baker and his cousin to hand over their cell phones.

Police said the victims did everything right, but as the robbers walked away, one of them shouted at Baker, then shot him.
