“The injuries to this dog are extremely life threatening,” said Dr. Julie Compton, a veterinarian surgeon. “I don’t know whether he’ll survive this or not, but he’s certainly trying.”

Rocco is 8-years-old. He’s been with the Pittsburgh Police Department for more than five years.

He was stabbed while police were chasing down a suspect in Lawrenceville Tuesday night.

Police describe 21-year-old John Rush as a dangerous guy. They say he’s a convicted sex offender and was wanted for a violent home invasion. More recently, police say he’d been traveling around the country with a 17-year-old girl.

Police finally tracked him down.

“The dog was apparently stabbed. [The suspect] was subdued when he was tasered again by a deputy,”…

And it was stamp bags like the ones discovered on East 20th Street in Homestead Monday by a joint Munhall-Homestead heroin investigation that helped put more stamp bag labels under a warning from law enforcement. Some of them were labeled “Bud Ice.”

The heroin is believed to be in bags stamped with the words Theraflu, Bud Ice and Income Tax.

“Heroin with these specific stamps has been identified by narcotics agents not only in Allegheny County, but also in Westmoreland, Armstrong, Butler, Lawrence and Beaver counties. However, these stamped…

For 11 years, Scott Houck has taught at Thomas Jefferson High School. He was highly regarded and taught tech classes.

However, the 41-year-old is accused of growing and selling marijuana out of his South Park home.

“It’s very disappointing to think that we have a teacher that might be involved in such type of activities,” said West Jefferson Hill Superintendent Michael Panza.

Officials started investigating Hope last summer. His front door shows marks, where it appears a DEA agent may have kicked in the door when they visited his house last Friday.

“Anytime teachers are involved in any type of activities such as this, it’s … very, very disappointing,” Panza said. “Teachers are supposed to be…

August Wilson Hopes To Draw Visitors With New Haiti Exhibit

CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It has been a difficult past several months at the August Wilson Center.

Its mission to celebrate African-American culture is threatened by financial problems.

[worldnow id=9749646 width=385 height=255 type=video]

This is not the Haiti that we see in network images of poverty and disaster.

The colorful works of art, at the August Wilson Center, reflect a colorful culture in tune with the environment.

The works were collected by Point Breeze art gallery owner Ian Rawson, who grew up on the Caribbean island.

“It’s humorous,” said Rawson. “It has joy. It has a wonderful spirit of empathy for the natural world. They’re ahead of us in the United States in terms off ecological management. This is the Haiti we know this is the Haiti I grew up in.”

The bright images are a counterpoint to the cloud of debt hovering over the August Wilson Center. Sala Udin is…

Police Seek Public’s Help After Mother, Son Found Shot Dead In Lawncrest

CBS Philly

By Molly Daly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police believe the person who killed a mother and son Sunday in the city’s Lawncrest section wasn’t a stranger.

“It appears it was personal — it appears it was someone that they knew. They had a dog inside that didn’t attack, didn’t bark, so we believe it was someone that was known to the mother and/or the son,” says Homicide Captain James Clark.

According to Capt. Clark, 22-year-old Richard Muller and his 49-year-old mother Donna were found upstairs in the house in the 300 block of Stevens Street, both shot execution-style in the back of the head (See Previous Story).

“We believe this double homicide was committed between the time frame on Sunday of 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. So we’re asking for the public’s help,” says Capt. Clark.

They particularly want to talk to neighbors, who may have seen anyone…
