WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH)– Some children in Waterbury celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with more than family, turkey and football games. They each got a big surprise when they went to school last week… a brand new pair of sneakers!

There’s something special about slipping on a new pair of shoes. At the Children’s Community School in Waterbury, volunteers from Davita Dialysis came with their arms filled with boxes and boxes of sneakers.

“We’re told there are kids that don’t go to school some days because they may not have the right pair of sneakers,” said Dora Harris, Davita Dialysis.

There were kicks of every size, color and style.

“I am so thankful for these shoes,” said Paris, a student.

And students like Paris just couldn’t hold-back the excitement of it all.

“They keep me nice and safe and I really like them a lot, the color on them,”…
