NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Four corrections officers are facing legal trouble of their own after being indicted for allegedly beating up a Riker’s Island inmate and then covering it up by forging paperwork.

As WCBS 880’s Monica Miller reported, a grand jury in the Bronx returned a 19-count indictment charging Michael Dorsainvil, Christopher Huggins, Mark Anglin, and Ronald Donnelley of falsifying business records and other charges.

Officials from the Department of Investigation said the four men beat inmate Carl Williams in a holding cell last March, causing injuries to his mouth that required stitches.

The four then allegedly filed a false report indicating that the actions were necessary to prevent the inmate from killing himself. They have pleaded not guilty.
