NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Everything from the home states of the Super Bowl XLVIII participants legalizing marijuana to respected shows like HBO Real Sports doing segments on its use in the NFL has kept the drug a topic of conversation throughout the sports world.

Now, Antonio Cromartie of the Jets has chimed in — and usually what he says becomes a topic of conversation all its own.

The outspoken cornerback said in a recent interview that the league attempting to crack down on marijuana use by players is just a waste of time.

“They need to just let it go,” Cromartie told “We’re just going to do it anyway. They just need to let it go. They just need to go ahead and say, ‘Y’all go ahead and smoke it, do what you need to do.’”
