NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl in Queens.

Emergency crews found the toddler, identified as Kevasia Edwards, unconscious and unresponsive in her Far Rockaway home on Beach 56 Place around 11:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Police responded to the home after Kevasia’s mother sought help from a neighbor who called 911, 1010 WINS reported.

The child, who also had bruising around her mouth, was taken to Saint John’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

She also reportedly suffered a broken rib, 1010 WINS reported.

Neighbors told 1010 WINS’ Al Jones they tried to help the little girl, one of them performing CPR as they waited for emergency responders to arrive.
