LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A Maryland man is facing weapons charges after security agents spotted a loaded Glock 22 semi-automatic pistol inside of his carry-on luggage at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Monday morning.

Transportation Security Administration officials say 28 rounds were loaded into the weapon’s magazine and another .40 caliber bullet was inside the chamber of the gun.

A gate agent discovered the weapon as the man’s bag was passed through a x-ray machine at a security checkpoint. The agent then notified Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police who subsequently arrested the man.

The unidentified District Heights man has been charged with a state weapons offense, according to the TSA.

Approximately 1.8 million travelers pass through TSA checkpoints each day.
