WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — According to an investigation conducted by Virginia State University, only one VSU player participated in a fight involving Winston-Salem State Quarterback Rudy Johnson that prompted the CIAA football championship to be canceled back in November.

The game between Winston-Salem State and Virginia State was canceled after a “group of Virginia State players” allegedly assaulted WSSU quarterback Rudy Johnson during a luncheon at WSSU. Lamont Darnell Britt was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

However, according to a investigation conducted by Washington-based attorney Robert Clayton, the fight only involved one VSU player (Lamont Darnell Britt) and was “spontaneous with no premeditation.”

Clayton’s report claims eight players were in the vicinity of the bathroom when the fight “broke out,” in addition to “one or two” WSSU players.”
