WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man holding a 16-year-old hostage inside a motel on University Parkway surrendered around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday following a 29-hour standoff, nearly two hours after he released the hostage.
Christopher Shane Jenkins surrendered to police without incident at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, two hours after a 16-year-old hostage walked out of the motel room.
Jenkins is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
Officers escorted 16-year-old Andrew Jovanni Menjivar alongside the front of the motel and across a parking lot toward University Parkway, where the hostage was put into a patrol car and driven away.
Winston-Salem Police Chief Rountree said Menjivar was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a larceny charge. He was placed in the Forsyth County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
Chief Rountree said they will continue to use the term “hostage” unless their investigation reveals conflicting information.
