MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — A former southern New Jersey school bus driver who sexually assaulted a young student last year has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
Hugo Sandoval of Hammonton must serve 8½ years of the term imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole.
The 59-year-old Sandoval had pleaded guilty last December to sexually assaulting the then 8-year-old girl in April 2012. Atlantic County prosecutors say the girl and her 5-year-old brother were the only students remaining on the bus when Sandoval stopped the vehicle and told the boy to go to the back of the bus.
Authorities say the boy was not assaulted or injured.
The girl quickly told her parents what had happened, and they informed police. Sandoval was arrested two days later.
